Reactions continued on social media almost a week after a spectacular goal by Nigerian Gaziantep striker Kayode Olanrewaju was disallowed by referee Alper Ulusoy and the Video Assistant Referee during a Turkish Super Ligue clash against giants Galatasaray.
The match was tied 3-3 at the Galatasaray stadium, but Gaziantep thought they had grabbed the winner after Olanrewaju spectacularly fired in an overhead kick late on.
However, the joy of the visitors, who were already celebrating a hard-fought victory, was cut short after Ulusoy disallowed the goal.
The ref, who consulted VAR, cancelled Olanrewaju’s effort after Gaziantep right-back Oguz Ceylan was adjudged to have fouled Jimmy Durmaz in the build-up to the goal.
The decision sparked reactions from the fans, who felt the goal should have stood, immediately after the game last Sunday.
Some opined that Kayode’s overhead kick effort could have been a top contender for the goal of the season if it was allowed.
Many vented their frustrations on Kayode’s Instagram page.
Former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Okoduwa wrote, “Bro dem just deny you Puskas (best goal) award.”
“That was a great goal there,” 11thmediaglobalconcept added.
Iam_larrezy also wrote, “Whaaaat a lovely goal, God bless you @larry_kayode_8_.” Idrisoluwatosin added, “That was spectacular.”
Kayode, who is loan at Gaziantep from Ukrainian giants, Shakhtar Donetsk, has nine goals with six assists in 12 appearances this season….
